It’s Census time!

Thursday, 6 May 2021

The sun returned after what felt like a very long vacation. You’ll have to take my word for it because, for some reason, I didn’t take a picture this morning. Or I took a picture in my mind 🤣

I filled out the census this morning. Every time I do, I’m transported to 1852 when my ancestors completed theirs. I think of the countless hours I have poured over those papers, following my family’s progress over the years. The marriages, children born and died, the occupations, animals and equipment owned, crops yielded and lost to fire and of course, the neighbours. The censuses have been instrumental and vital in painting a picture of what life was like, how my family lived, what they did, and where they moved. I’m grateful for their existence. And as I hit the submit button, I wonder if in the distant future, my future ancestors will look at this census I just completed and learn something about me and my life.

On a side note, I made a healing cream for the shingles blisters. I’ve been infusing chamomile in almond oil for six weeks or so, intending on making a body lotion.

But, as I scoured my healing books for relief from shingles, I found a recipe that called for chamomile infused oil (sweet!) and other ingredients I happened to have on hand. It turned out lovely! I put some on tonight before bed so it has the night to soak in. Can’t wait to see how it works.
