Patience is…

Tuesday, 16 March 2021

This time of year is precious. Everyday witnessing nature coming alive. The return of the song birds. Perce Neige and crocuses piercing through the snow. Watching the snow melting, calculating how long before the garden is visible and I can get my fingers into the soil.

Patience is truly a virtue and one I sorely lack. It is no doubt a virtue I am here to work on during this life time. I find this time of the year the most difficult because I just want to get outside and play. Even as a kid, I couldn’t wait to get outside with my skipping rope, ride my bike around the lane, or just hang outside and watch the fireflies.

The change in time this weekend has made the day longer and teased me of what is to come. I feel like Spring is the Universe’s way of slowly waking us from our long slumber. Not too fast and not to slow, just the right speed to get us to the perfect place in our lives, preparing us for what comes next. Summer, with her long days that seem endless, are jam packed with outdoor activities, planting, BBQ’ing, families, hopefully cottages and festivals. It’s when we move outdoors and reconnect with nature. Camping, sleeping under the stars, even in your own backyard, watching the stars, swimming in the lake or river…It’s a busy time.

So, while I wait for the last frost date to pass, I will bide my time planning my garden and planting my seeds, dreaming of those long summer nights that seem to go on forever and, hopefully this year, surrounded by friends and family.
