Eight months from today is Christmas day… Thanks Mom for the reminder 😘
Today was a fabulous spring day. The sun was shining bright and warm. The occasional light breeze, 15°C, birds chirping…wow. Just beautiful!
We spent the day outside. Mom trimming trees, while I was digging up the grass. The next best thing to having flowers around is preparing a garden.
I haven’t had much luck with box gardening, so decided this year to get back to my roots – the summers of my childhood – and plant a garden in the ground…the good old clay. It can be challenging but with the one square foot garden technique, fertilizer and a little top soil thrown in for good measure…here’s hoping!
I started out with a plan for a herbal tea garden with chamomile, lemon balm, spearmint and peppermint. And a smallish vegetable garden close by. Plus I’d like to have a sunflower garden too… My problem is I want it all and start big, then get overwhelmed and let things slide.
Take this morning, I marked out the garden, 18×13 feet. Dug the perimeter, stopped for a break. Mom joined me and we sat there talking, looking at the large space I had marked out. She managed to convince me to cut it down to 6×6 feet instead…start small and build on it.

I’m not sure how many times I thanked her today for saving me. It took me a couple of hours to dig up the 6×6 space…imagine if it was 18×13! I’m stiff and sore but it feels good!
We shared a picnic lunch, listened to the birds and enjoyed our backyard, making plans for the summer.

I’m not sure how well I’ll be moving tomorrow, so likely no gardening, but I was thinking how nice it would be to plein air paint tomorrow. If the weather cooperates, we’ll see.
Have a good night!
