Another beautiful sunny hot day!
I’m going to skip right to the end of my day and tell you about my walk around the yard this evening… especially the butterfly garden.
Every day, several times throughout the day actually, I find myself looking in the garden for movement…could be butterflies, bees, dragon flies…sometimes other insects. Lately, there’s been dragon flies, tiny butterflies and a monarch here and there.
Today…well now, there was lots of activity! First off was a hummingbird moth! If you haven’t seen one of these moths before, well they’re just so neat!
Then there was the bee getting very intimate with the milkweed
If it wasn’t for the bee, I would have missed this
This is the first time I have seen a monarch butterfly on the milkweed.
A bit of backstory: a few years before my dad passed away, he read about the monarch butterfly population declining and decided to do something about it. He started a milkweed garden. Years later, I moved in with Mom and also became passionate about helping the monarchs. Over the years I have added flowers and herbs, native to the area, that are butterfly and bee friendly. The garden has expanded and become an oasis, not just for butterflies and insects but birds too.
So to see a monarch caterpillar in the garden, on the milkweed, and to know that the garden is doing what it’s meant to be doing is such a joy!
On another note, I framed some of my paintings and hung them up:
Have a good night and thanks for reading.
