No sun today I’m afraid. The sky was white and grey in anticipation of snow, which eventually fell.

I’m feeling better today. Phew! Good thing as I had a few things I wanted to get done this weekend. Two things I’ve been wanting to do for ages but keep putting off: making gluten-free granola and gluten-free vegan oatmeal cookies. I have a great recipe for oatmeal cookies and wanted to tweak it a little to make it gf and vegan. I replaced the oats with gf oats, the flour with gf flour, the butter with margarine (I have a vegan butter to try next time) and the milk with almond milk. I was a little concerned it wasn’t going to work out as the dough was quite moist compared to the traditional recipe. But I’m happy to say, not only did they turn out…they’re delicious!

On a roll, I threw some gf oatmeal, almonds, and hemp seed into the blender to mix it up a little, added a little maple syrup then put it in the oven to bake for a bit. Nibbled on a little piece and it was yummy. Can’t wait to try it out tomorrow for breakfast.

Today’s picture of the day: the wild turkey’s strutting around. They are quite a sight!

The painting of the day was a challenge. I flipped through the new painting books I ordered online, found one I wanted to try…one I tried once before but thought to give it another go.

I worked at it and worked at it but it wasn’t going where I wanted it to go. It looked nothing like the picture in the book. Frustrated, I put it aside to start on another one. For this one, I tried a similar look but used a sponge instead of the brush and…it looked better but still not great. I finished it off the best I could, signed it and put it aside to dry. Then went back to the first painting and worked with it, ignoring the book and doing my own thing, adding highlights and shadows to the trees, flowers in the grass, and other small details and before I knew it, I was liking the painting!

I muttered something about paintings not turning out when I try to copy something from a book, that I need to just do my own thing. My mom piped up from the other room…”You’ve said that before!” Ya, I guess I have. When will I learn 😉

When I looked at the painting closely, it looks like a sun beam or sunshine shining on a spot in the forest with faerie lights. Funny how things work out sometimes…
