BROADEN your horizons, meet new people, and learn something new by signing up for a class or workshop at your local community centre or school board.
Ní Oideachas ullmhú don saol, is é oideachas an saol féin. John Dewey
BUT, sign up for something that interests you, NOT something you feel you should be learning. Make it FUN and you’re more apt to stick to it and enjoy it, thus having fun and igniting your happy button.
Maybe you’ve always wanted to learn Italian or how to cook Thai food? Or, better yet, how about intuitive classes like intuitive painting or intuitive dancing?
L’educazione è l’arma più potente che si può usare per cambiare il mondo. Nelson Mandela
I love teaching intuitive classes because you don’t require PREVIOUS experience or knowledge to participate. You just need a willingness to tap in to your inner self and allow the creative forces to flow through your brush (or your body if you’re dancing).
So, over the holidays, why not browse the general interest courses being offered in your neck of the woods and sign up for one. There are classes for all ages, all experiences and all budgets.
NOTE: The two quotes above were translated using Google Translate so don’t shoot the messenger if they’re not grammatically correct because I haven’t signed up for Irish or Italian classes yet.
LOVE and accept yourself as you are right now – not how you’ll be next week or in six months, or when you loose weight, get fit, or if you were thinner, prettier, smarter, richer, sexier… But how you are NOW, today, in this moment.
Too often we look toward the FUTURE and dwell on the past instead of living in the moment. Remember that God and the Universe made you and love you unconditionally, exactly the way you are today. God doesn’t care that you’re carrying extra weight or that you’re not making a six-figure salary. He does care that you’re happy and loving your life and LIVING it to the best of your ability every moment of every day.
I recall a moment many years ago when I was standing in for my sister and took my niece to her swim class. It was parent’s day but I didn’t get the memo so didn’t bring a bathing suit with me. The other moms did get the memo but chose not to participate because they were self-conscious wearing a bathing suit in front of each other. I watched a group of disappointed children (with the exception of one boy who’s mom jumped in the pool which her child) and wondered what message they were learning about self-image.
Something came to me while sitting there with the other moms – most people won’t judge you in your bathing suit because most people are so preoccupied with how they look and are worrying about what others are thinking that they don’t have time to see and judge you. And, at the end of the day, what’s more important? Caring what other people think about you or having fun with your loved one?
Do you know who people notice? The one who walks by with their head held high and self-confidence radiating from within. They look good no matter their size or what they’re wearing because they love who they are and it shows.
I remember hearing somebody say: “It’s none of your business what other people think of you” and I find that comment so refreshing because it’s so true. You can’t live up to everyone’s expectations and ideals of what they feel you should be, but you can live up to the ideals and expectations you and your higher power have set for you. At the end of the day, all that truly matters is how you feel about you.
If there is something in your life that you’re not happy with, change it. If you can’t change it then accept it and move on and remember that true beauty radiates from within.
And love everything about you because you are awesome and so worthy of love!
Are you looking for ways to help you love yourself right now? Louise Hay (the Queen of Positive Affirmations) introduced mirror work, a concept where, at least once a day, you stand in front of a mirror, look yourself in the eye and say: “I love you (your name), I really love you.”
(For the record, if I had known it was parent’s day, I would have been in that pool swimming my heart out with my precious niece.)
INDULDGE in a few minutes of make-believe by letting your mind wander to far off lands and experiences you have yet to create.
Daydreaming allows you’re right brain to get those CREATIVE juices flowing. Not only is it a wonderful way to take a mini-break, it’s also a key component to living the life of your dreams.
Take a few minutes each day to think about your HOPES, dreams and wishes and then see yourself living as if they have all come to fruition; feel the way you would if you were just granted your wish – I see happy dances; arms reaching in the air with high fives; and more than a few woo hoo’s happening here!
This technique is referred to as the Law of Attraction, made popular by the Secret. There are many books and new age gurus who have put their own spin on how to manifest but it all boils down to the same principle: Your thoughts attract like to you so POSITIVE thoughts bring positive energy.
One example of how the Law of Attraction works that so resonated with me I decided to give it a go was Louise Hay’s You Can Heal Your Life DVD. There was a man who hated going to work everyday because his co-workers bullied him. He began reciting a daily affirmation: “I love my job. I work with people I love and respect and who love and respect me.” Before long a change took place. Some people were transferred to other departments, some were promoted and some left; New people came in and they loved and respected each other. This man looked forward to going to work each day! I gave this affirmation a try and, before I knew it, the unhappy, negative people LEFT and were replaced with happy, positive people. A toxic workplace became a fun, loving workspace.
Your THOUGHTS are powerful, so make sure you’re choosing positive things to think about.
Another way to manifest things into your life is by writing down your hopes, dreams and wishes, then make a list of why they will come true. You can take this a step further and create a vision board by pasting photographs, magazine cut-outs etc. that represent your desires and put it somewhere you will see it everyday and take a moment to visualize your desires coming to fruition.
Then, keep your senses open to hear, see, feel and/or know the guidance that will follow your “request” to the Universe. Rarely will your dream land in your lap (or on your front door) although it has been known to happen. Usually, though, you will be guided to take action such as go here, do this. Don’t be surprised if you’re guided to a bookstore or a yoga class. God and the Universe have pretty funny sense of humours.
If you’re interested in reading more about the Law of Attraction and how to get it working for you, may I suggest a book I found very helpful: E-Squared by Pam Grout. What I love about this book is the experiments at the end of each chapter. The experiments are super easy and will have you believing and playing along in no time.
One of the experiments I tried was asking the Universe to send me a pink car. The Universe had 48 hours to deliver as many pink cars as possible. We were nearing the end of the experiment and I had yet to receive my pink car. I found myself at a restaurant for brunch to celebrate a couple of family birthdays. I was silently lamenting I had yet to receive my pink car and time was running out. The birthday girl opened a birthday card and, on the front cover, was a pink car! No word of a lie! What a hoot. Even funnier, the next card she opened was identical – another pink car! Two pink cars in 48 hours. The Universe has a sense of humour!
I recently read a blog post that summed up the law of attraction really nicely. You can find it here: The Power of Thoughts.
Take time out today to SPOIL you with a special dinner, maybe a movie, a night with your favourite book, a hot luxurious bath, or treat yourself to a day at the spa! It doesn’t matter what you do, just make it a HABIT to schedule in “you” time.
It’s IMPORTANT to take care of yourself on a regular basis. During a spiritual counselling session, when my angels show me an airplane taking off, I know they want me to talk about self-care. They taught me this analogy during a difficult session when their guidance and love were falling on the deaf ears of our client. The guidance I was giving her was for self-care and the more I shared about taking care of herself and finding things to do that made her happy, the more she shut down. I was getting frustrated but knew there was a reason she came to me so I asked my angels for help in getting their message through in a way the client could RELATE to. They showed me an airplane and oxygen masks falling from the ceiling of the plane, a woman sitting with a small child, putting her mask on first, and then helping her child. When I shared this message with her, she burst into tears because it really resonated with her. THANK YOU angels!
With this analogy, God is telling us that when we take care of ourselves, physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually, then we are in the PERFECT place to help others. BUT, when we put our needs aside to help others, we are not as effective at helping them.
Now, I’m not recommending you be selfish and make everything about you! What I’m saying is to set healthy boundaries and make sure you plan me-time in your busy schedule to tend to your earthly and Heavenly needs as well as the needs of your family and friends. It’s all about BALANCE.
Remember: you’re IMPORTANT to those around you so make sure to take care of you!
