INDULDGE in a few minutes of make-believe by letting your mind wander to far off lands and experiences you have yet to create.
Daydreaming allows you’re right brain to get those CREATIVE juices flowing. Not only is it a wonderful way to take a mini-break, it’s also a key component to living the life of your dreams.
Take a few minutes each day to think about your HOPES, dreams and wishes and then see yourself living as if they have all come to fruition; feel the way you would if you were just granted your wish – I see happy dances; arms reaching in the air with high fives; and more than a few woo hoo’s happening here!
This technique is referred to as the Law of Attraction, made popular by the Secret. There are many books and new age gurus who have put their own spin on how to manifest but it all boils down to the same principle: Your thoughts attract like to you so POSITIVE thoughts bring positive energy.
One example of how the Law of Attraction works that so resonated with me I decided to give it a go was Louise Hay’s You Can Heal Your Life DVD. There was a man who hated going to work everyday because his co-workers bullied him. He began reciting a daily affirmation: “I love my job. I work with people I love and respect and who love and respect me.” Before long a change took place. Some people were transferred to other departments, some were promoted and some left; New people came in and they loved and respected each other. This man looked forward to going to work each day! I gave this affirmation a try and, before I knew it, the unhappy, negative people LEFT and were replaced with happy, positive people. A toxic workplace became a fun, loving workspace.
Your THOUGHTS are powerful, so make sure you’re choosing positive things to think about.
Another way to manifest things into your life is by writing down your hopes, dreams and wishes, then make a list of why they will come true. You can take this a step further and create a vision board by pasting photographs, magazine cut-outs etc. that represent your desires and put it somewhere you will see it everyday and take a moment to visualize your desires coming to fruition.
Then, keep your senses open to hear, see, feel and/or know the guidance that will follow your “request” to the Universe. Rarely will your dream land in your lap (or on your front door) although it has been known to happen. Usually, though, you will be guided to take action such as go here, do this. Don’t be surprised if you’re guided to a bookstore or a yoga class. God and the Universe have pretty funny sense of humours.
If you’re interested in reading more about the Law of Attraction and how to get it working for you, may I suggest a book I found very helpful: E-Squared by Pam Grout. What I love about this book is the experiments at the end of each chapter. The experiments are super easy and will have you believing and playing along in no time.
One of the experiments I tried was asking the Universe to send me a pink car. The Universe had 48 hours to deliver as many pink cars as possible. We were nearing the end of the experiment and I had yet to receive my pink car. I found myself at a restaurant for brunch to celebrate a couple of family birthdays. I was silently lamenting I had yet to receive my pink car and time was running out. The birthday girl opened a birthday card and, on the front cover, was a pink car! No word of a lie! What a hoot. Even funnier, the next card she opened was identical – another pink car! Two pink cars in 48 hours. The Universe has a sense of humour!
I recently read a blog post that summed up the law of attraction really nicely. You can find it here: The Power of Thoughts.
Happy Daydreaming!
