Are you enjoying life?

Are you enjoying your life? If not, read on for tips on how to changing things so you are enjoying life.

I recently read a post on Twitter that said something along the lines of

“if you’re not enjoying life, something needs to change.”

I found myself nodding my head in affirmation. It’s so true. Life is too short to be spending your time brooding, complaining and holding grudges. It’s also too short to be doing something you don’t like or something you don’t want to do.

This spring I lead a happiness workshop – The ART of Happiness – introducing participants to a variety of artistic endeavours. Over the course of six weeks we participated in an abstract painting class, made a glass bead over a hot torch, jammed with a father-son musician duo, made a rose quartz bracelet and learned how drum on djembe drums.

The purpose of the workshop was to get in touch with our creative sides, finding hobbies that interest us and in turn spark our passion. The idea for the workshop came from my guides and my clients. So often – during readings and counselling sessions – I have been asked by my clients “How can I get happy?” or “Will I ever be happy?”.  I was surprised by how many people don’t know what makes them happy and even more surprised by people who are living a life without happiness.

Happiness is overrated.

I don’t believe it is. I believe happiness is under-rated. Being happy, truly contented with your life and enjoying your life can be achieved. But, it takes some work.

Three small steps to help you enjoy your life:

  1. Spend some time alone.
  2. Pay it forward.
  3. Find a hobby.

Carve out some much deserved and needed “me time”. Schedule it into your calendar – weekly to start but daily is better! It could be 5 minutes or 50 minutes. Unplug from the busy-ness around you. Leave your phone at home. Go for a walk in nature. Eat your lunch outside. Sit on the grass. Lean against a tree. Read a book. Write your thoughts. Close your eyes and just be. Quiet your mind. Connect to your inner self and your higher power.

Pay it forward. All too often we get so caught up in our own lives that we’re not aware of what’s going on in the lives of those around us. Take time to notice what’s happening in your community; do something nice for someone you don’t know; volunteer in your community. Volunteering is a win-win as you and your community both get something out of it.

Find a hobby. Make a list of all the things you like to do. You don’t have to be good at it, as long as you enjoy it – that’s all that matters – then do it. Make it a priority in your life to do things you enjoy doing and do it regularly!

In my next post I’ll have more steps on how to create happiness in your life, in the meantime, find something to do today that brings a smile to your face and contentment to your heart.

With you on the journey,

Wanda
